KUCHING: Finally after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Sarawak Motorsport Festival (SMF) will see at least 200 participants taking part in the event.

This event will be held from Sept 17 to 18 at Petra Jaya motorsport training circuit, Stadium Sarawak here.

“We are pleased to facilitate this kind of events to be held in Kuching,” said Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan during a press conference at the Mayor’s office, level 4, DBKU building yesterday.

“But the most important thing to highlight here is to make sure all of the facilities for the event are safe to be used by the participants and also the audience,

“We also have to ensure the cleanliness of the city after we hold any activities like this as cleanliness of the city is our responsibility,” he added.

Meanwhile Petra Jaya Motorsport secretary Sylvester Reggie said the purpose of the event is to be a platform to develop the youths and showcase their talent passion and hobbies.

“Alongside, we also can enhance networking and exchange of knowledge, we believe will contribute to higher standards of the automotive scene in Sarawak,” he said.

SMF chairman Andy Chong told the press yesterday there would be more than 30 automotive showcase products and service exhibitions from Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.

“There will be an automotive show and audio show, PJM training track open day, Go Kart and bike show, Drift, gymkhana and time attack show and also photo and videography contest,” he added.

According to Chong, some 3,000 people are expected to come to the event. Entrance fee for the event is RM10 per person while it is free for children below 12 years old.
