SIBU: The two-day Dayak Tank-Thinker Association Sarawak (DTTAS) Education Fair 2022 has attracted 183 school leavers through the ‘walk-in’ approach at Dewan Komuniti Sibu Jaya.

According to Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang, the purpose of the education fair, from Sept 16-17, was to provide opportunities for the school leavers to know what was being offered by institutions of higher education or institutions that develop skills.

“I would like to thank DTTAS for their effort and successfully organising this education fair and I was informed that those who come either registered as students or as borrowers for Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) and Yayasan Sarawak,” he said.

Gira said this when met by reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony or DTTAS Education Fair here on Saturday (Sept 17).

Meanwhile, DTTAS secretary Malvina Albert Klinsing said that most of the booths consisted of institutions that were focusing on technical skills had voluntarily joined the education fair.

She also noted that the education fair in Sibu Jaya was the second series of the DTTAS education fair, the third will be held at Marudi in mid-October.

“The first DTTAS education fair was held at Debak with a different approach where we invite Form 4 and 5 students from the schools to join us.

“Different from what we are doing here, In Debak we have motivational talks and so on, however here we only have booths as we are targeting the school leavers,” she said.

Malvina also said that in Marudi they will be using the same approach as Sibu and hoped that more school leavers will come and grab the opportunities to get information regarding the higher institutions as well as educational loans from PTPTN and Yayasan Sarawak.

“We want to guide them, we want to explain what help is, how to apply for help, and eligibility that suits their skills and interests,” she said.
