KUCHING: SMK St Mary received eight sets of computers and accessories yesterday (Sept 27).

The contribution was handed over by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen whose office purchased desktop computers, monitors, keyboards, internet routers, and printers for the school.

He said the equipment will be used to equip the school’s internet and information centre for the benefit of the students.

“With the ever-changing environment of education, technology, ICT, and internet, it is more important than ever to provide a holistic environment of learning for students.

“However, not every student can afford such equipment. If this issue is not dealt with properly, it may widen the education gap between the rich and the poor,” he said.

In order to ensure students are not left behind, Dr Yii said he is committed to helping them establish an internet or information centre so the facility will be fully utilised by students and even staff members.

These facilities can provide a better learning environment for all and also help students complete their tasks or assignments which require a computer to search for information online.

“Education has always been a priority concern in my constituency. When the school sent in a letter to seek assistance, I immediately made efforts to add eight sets of computer equipment to the school’s internet centre.

“I hope the internet centre can help the students meet their learning needs,” he added.
