KUCHING: A political analyst is of the opinion that relevant authorities should talk with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) on the transportation fares that greatly affect voters who are away from their home state.
“From there, the ministry should negotiate with the bus companies and the Malaysian Aviation Commission on the price of the fares.
“They (MOT) should put the national agenda (such as this) first,” Dr Novel Lydon told the New Sarawak Tribune today .
He also called on aircraft operators such as AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines to also play their role.
“The operators should fulfil their responsibilities (such as this) through corporate social responsibility (CSR),” he said.
In light of this, he also advised voters to equip democracy literacy within them.
“This literacy is very important so that you know how important your votes are.
“For that, I hope that (certain parties) do not expect voters to vote for them even when they give discounts on flights and bus fares.
“Let voters vote freely in the democracy concept and to vote without any return,” he said.
For the record, the Election Commission (EC) has announced that polling for the 15th general election (GE15) will be held on Nov 19 while the nomination date falls on Nov 5, which allows for two weeks of campaigning.
