KUCHING: The tourism sector in Sarawak is now growing rapidly with various international level programmes held in recent times, says Chief Political Secretary to the Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
Following the heavy impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the state’s tourism sector, he said these events are giving a positive impact to the industry which involves not only the hotels and other related industries, but also small-scale entrepreneurs.
“There are more people coming to Kuching from various places not only to enjoy the programmes or festivals held, but also to spend on foods, merchandise and many more.
“Therefore, the spillover effect has covered all of the industries and is not only limited to the tourism sector,” he said.
He said this when met by the media during the Kuching Jazz Festival 2022 here last night.
The Tupong assemblyman also expressed his hopes for more international level programmes to be held in Kuching or other parts of Sarawak in the future.
“Tonight, we witnessed performances by local and international artists and indeed we are very pleased to see our local artist performing alongside international artists.
“We hope we can have more of our local artists performing in this industry,” he added.
