BINTULU: Youth and job seekers are advised to take full advantage of the job portal provided by government departments and agencies to find jobs that suit their qualifications.

Director of the State Social Security Organisation (Sosco), Phillip Sangkan said, the government provides employment portals such as MYFutureJobs which is a platform for local job search and free advertisement of job vacancies for employers and job seekers in the private sector.

He said, as of last September, a total of 1,360 employers had registered with MyFutureJobs and offered 179,695 job vacancies in Sarawak.

According to him, Socso’MyFutureJobs is a portal provided to help job seekers and launch job matching.

“In addition, the JaminKerja Programme – Employment Incentive is a financial incentive given to employers who make new hires from 1 January 2022 among apprentices, graduates, vulnerable groups including the disabled, ex-soldiers, ex-convicts, the elderly and the general public unemployed.

“An incentive of 20 per cent of the gross salary up to RM12,000 for each employee if they successfully work for the first six months and as much as 40 per cent of the gross salary of up to RM24,000 if the employee is employed up to the next six months,” he said at the Hari Carnival ADTEC Career – SOCSO Bintulu 2022 at ADTEC Bintulu Branch Main Lecture Hall, yesterday.

According to Phillip, in total, a maximum incentive of RM36,000 is provided for each individual recruited under the programme.

“Based on record, 11,682 job placements were successfully made after 676 interview sessions were conducted throughout Sarawak in 2021.

“While until June 2022, a total of 5,913 job placements were made following 491 interviews conducted,” he added.

As the implementing body for new hire incentives, he said Socso urged employers to take this opportunity to offer jobs to job seekers outside, especially those who have lost their source of income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are concerned about the difficulties experienced and anxiety among job seekers whose income is affected.

“This includes jobs in the gig economy or non-standard employment with uncertain income, long working hours and no EPF savings for old age.

“I am afraid that if this issue is not addressed holistically, it could affect the country’s socio-economic stability,” he added.
