KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is set on winning big in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) to secure a louder voice in parliament on safeguarding Sarawak’s rights.
GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government will continue to fight for Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and Intergovernmental Committee (IGC) report.
He said pursuing matters under the MA63 and IGC report is being done through Sarawak’s members of parliament (MPs).
“This is the first GE that we will be contesting under GPS but we are not scared or nervous.
“GPS is determined to protect Sarawak’s rights – we are not to be trifled with, if challenged we will fight back,” he said.
He said this at the launching of the GPS Youth Machinery on Today(Oct 29) at Stadium Perpaduan here. Abang Johari congratulated the GPS Youth Machinery and reminded them to ensure the machinery will sail smoothly as if powered by hydrogen.
“Let the ‘engine’ run smoothly so that the ‘vehicle’ will run well – the driver (of the vehicle) will have an easy journey to parliament,” he said.
Abang Johari said it is crucial to work together to ensure the component parties can sweep all 31 seats.
“Any personal differences must be set aside, we are struggling for our future and for the people behind us,” he said.
Abang Johari pointed out that Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia to have inclusive policies for the rakyat.
From Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) to allocation loans to longhouses and urban centres, he said the state government implements its assistance across the board.
“We will be introducing the Sovereign Wealth Fund in the upcoming state legislative assembly (DUN) sitting. This will benefit our future generations as the state will have stronger financial funding for the young ones in the future.
“With God’s blessing, we also want to transform our education policy so that the young ones can pursue their studies to university level,” he said.
