KUCHING: A total of 41 artworks by local artists were exhibited in an art competition in conjunction with Uptown Cat VIII 2022 at Gallery A, Cat Museum here on yesterday (Oct 30).
The competition, hosted by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), received good participation from students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Lim Kok Wing and Pesniaga.
The opening ceremony of Uptown Cat VIII 2022 as well as the presentation of competition prizes was done by the Sarawak Premier’s wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, accompanied by DBKU mayor, Datuk Junaidi Reduan.
With her painting, Meow Gemilang, Nur Aimi Athirah Abdul Aziz took home the event’s top prize of RM2,000 in addition to a trophy and a gift basket.
Lily Metom from UiTM won second place with her painting The Patroits and received RM1,500 in cash, a trophy, and a gift basket.
Mohd Razif Mohd Rathi from UiTM secured third place and went home with RM 1,000 in cash, a trophy, and a gift basket for his artwork, Twelve Faces.
Along with a trophy and a hamper, the fourth through seventh-place winners also received a cash award of RM300, while the eighth through tenth-place winners received a cash prize of RM200.
The event was additionally enlivened by an appreciation exhibition for those who won the nine best cat categories in the Kuching North Cat Show 2022 competition.
Among the categories are Best Kitten Shorthair, Best Kitten Longhair, Best Adult Shorthair, Best Adult Longhair, Best Sarawak Local Cat, Best Grooming Longhair, Best Grooming Shorthair, VIP Best Choice and Best in Show.
Juma’ani was also presented two kittens named Latte and Jasmine as a token of appreciation by DBKU.
Uptown Cat VIII 2022 was held for two days starting yesterday.
