KUCHING: There will be an onslaught of lies, accusations and instigations against GPS candidates in the coming parliamentary polls.

“The people should simply ignore these as they are spread to disunite them and to disrupt their racial harmony and ties,” Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said when officiating at a course for polling and counting agents of the Betong parliamentary seat yesterday.

He said that such tactics were also aimed at eroding the people’s support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak and to influence them to vote for the opposition.

Uggah said when the people decided to support the opposition, there would be the unnecessary interruption to the smooth implementation of the government’s development projects and programmes meant to benefit them.

On the Betong seat, Uggah urged voters to strongly support the GPS candidate.

“Let us again continue to make Betong a GPS fortress. Let us all work hard, work smart and think smart in making our choice.

“Let us show our appreciation and gratitude to the GPS government for appointing our Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap and Saribas assemblyman Mohd Razi Sitam as deputy ministers after the state election last year.

“The creation of the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) and its development budget of RM1.5 billion is another reason why we should rally solidly behind GPS,” he said.

Uggah said he was confident the GPS candidate would do well in the coming polls as the voters had shown themselves to be very supportive of the GPS government.

Betong incumbent MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat was among
those present at the course which was conducted by former State Election Commission director Datuk Takun Sunggah.
