KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts is looking at enhancing the information database on the tourism sector in Sarawak.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it will be done on the existing application and website of the tourism sector here.
“We have all those websites and all those applications. All visitors need to do is download the applications where they can see and find interesting places in Sarawak. Everything is there.
“All we need to do is to improve as much data as possible in it,” he said when officiating at the soft launching of Volume 1 of IJBEL at Bangunan Baitulmakmur II on Tuesday (Nov 1).
He pointed out tourists were opting for smart tourism through their smartphones which cuts the hassle of looking up places in books.
“Now everything is there. So the way I see it is that technology is growing very fast and technically sometimes tourists don’t even have to travel as they can see what they want to see by Google-ing the places.
“In fact, one day, tourism attractions could even be enjoyed through Virtual Reality (VR).
“But of course, nothing can beat being physically at certain places,” he said.
