KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Lo Khere Chiang is confident to wrest the Stampin parliamentary seat from Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, in the 15th general election (GE15).
Lo, who is also the SUPP Batu Kitang assemblyman, said GPS is committed to protecting and reclaiming the state’s eroded rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), for the interests of every Sarawakian.
Thus, he believed the voters will give undivided support for GPS in the upcoming polls.
“We are all ready, this election is all about GPS – it is not about the United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) or Pakatan Harapan.
“Only GPS can protect and regain our rights pursuant to the MA63, which is why we need to win all 31 seats,” he said.
He said this when met by the media after GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg made the announcement on candidates for GE15 at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters today.
Lo, who is also the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, said he will be holding onto the ‘Sarawak First’ principle in his strategy for winning back the Stampin seat.
He said all Sarawakians must be united to protect Sarawak’s rights and interests.
“If we have more parliamentary seats in the future, we will field candidates in all of them.
In GE14, Chong won the Stampin parliamentary seat with 14, 221-vote majority against SUPP President Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian who was then contested under the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket.
