KUCHING: Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni has welcomed the new candidate for the Santubong parliamentary seat.
“As everyone knows, the new candidate announced by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Wednesday, is Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
“Datuk Seri Nancy is an experienced MP and is also the caretaker federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
“We hope she will be retained as minister and bring more development here.
“The most important thing is to win big because Santubong is very popular as the highest scorer (of votes) like myself who got the highest majority in the past few elections together with Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi.
“We hope to achieve the same or better things so that the voices of Santubong constituents will be heard more by the federal government,” the Demak Laut assemblyman emphasised.
He advised young voters to choose wisely because “in the end, this will determine their future.”
He said this when met by the media after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs), Ethos and Intertek in conjunction with Green Future Sarawak 2022 on Friday (Nov 4).
The Santubong incumbent is Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who has held the seat since 2004.
Wan Junaidi was also the Batang Lupar MP for three terms during the Barisan Nasional (BN) era.
The veteran politician expressed his decision not to contest in the upcoming 15th general election.
