BAU: Mas Gading parliamentary seat is set to see a three-cornered fight between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) in the 15th general election (GE15).
DAP’s Mordi Bimol, who is defending the seat for the second term, will be up against GPS’ new face, Lidang Disen and PBK’s Sim Min Leong.
Election Commission (EC) Returning officer Anielia Siam made the announcement at Bau Civic Centre here at 12.10 noon; after no objection was received.
In the last general election, Mordi won the seat in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Anthony Nogeh with a majority of 3,024 votes.
In Kota Samarahan, GPS Datuk Rubiah Wang is facing a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan candidate Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili.
The Election Commission (EC) returning officer Anuar Da’an made the announcement at the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre here today, after the nomination papers from both candidates have been accepted by the commission.
Rubiah was the first to file her nomination document at 9.01am followed by Abdul Halil at 9.05am.
Earlier, Rubiah, 54, was accompanied by her proposer, Sapawi Samat and seconder, Erine Gadul.
Meanwhile, Abdul Halil, 62, was accompanied by his proposer, Awang Julai Awang Udin and seconder, Sajali Pawi.
More than 1,000 GPS supporters were chanting outside the nomination centre.
Parti Pesaka Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was also present at the nomination centre to show his support for Rubiah, who is seeking her third term.
In the previous GE14, Rubiah garnered 25,070 votes against AMANAH Sopian Julaihi (8,078 votes) and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Zulkipli Ramzi (2,719 votes).
