Kuching NGO speaks at World Cancer Congress

KUCHING: The Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN) was invited to present papers at the World Cancer Congress in Geneva which was held from Oct 18 to 20.

SCAN president Chris Cheng and committee member, Dr Melissa Lim represented the organisation on this international platform.

“They presented on topics “Rethinking Awareness Through Creative Action and Collaboration” and “No one left behind: Bridging the breast cancer divide for underserved communities.

“The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) organises The World Cancer Congress once every two years, each time in a different member country,” said a statement issued yesterday.

Participants from over 120 countries convened in Geneva or connected remotely for three days which were filled with topical sessions, presentation of scientific abstracts and research studies, and lively debates on key challenges affecting the full range of cancer control.

The Congress also featured workshops and other learning opportunities, movie screenings, a spotlight stage, exhibitors’ hall and private discussions as well as social events.

Cheng said,” The World Cancer Congress facilitates the interaction between all those from all sectors, namely, doctors, researchers, NGOs, cancer survivors and all those who have been personally affected by cancer that unites everyone with one aim of reducing the burden of cancer for everyone, everywhere.”

SCAN is a registered society and a UICC member. It was established to become the unified voice for all cancer patients to improve access to high quality public health care and to create cancer awareness among the general public to increase survival.
