SIBU: Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Lanang incumbent Alice Lau has expressed her frustration over the placement of an edited Rocket logo banner with a vulgar word in the town by irresponsible parties.

According to Lau, who was met by reporters during a mural launching ceremony at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here yesterday (Nov 6), she had received a lot of direct messages regarding the banner from DAP supporters in the area.

““In front of all my billboards here, you can see they put a rocket with inappropriate words in Chinese character. Even at Jalan Aman roundabout, they put a very huge rocket logo with the Chinese wording. I think this is a very low-class way to attack me.

“Actually, this is a very low-class trick during the election campaign. I have been in this election campaign for so many years, this is the first time I saw all these happen and, of course, it comes from my opponent. Very obvious,” she slammed.

Lau noted that a complaint had been made to the Returning Officer (RO) and Election Commission (EC) regarding the issues and the ‘culprits’ were given two days period to remove the banner.

Meanwhile, Sibu incumbent Oscar Ling urged the contesting parties to not use such tricks during the campaign period and urged for a gentlemen’s fight.

“It is not the way to smear your opponent’s image. Please show your policy instead. Show your manifesto, we have shown ours,” he said.

Lanang parliamentary seat will see a four-cornered fight between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), DAP, Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), and an independent candidate in this 15th general election (GE15).

Lau is facing GPS’s new face Wong Ching Yong, PBK general secretary Priscilla Lau and Independent candidate Datuk Wong Tiing Kiong.
