MIRI: Senior police officers who attended a recent forum on fraud and cyberbullying prevention here took immediate action to investigate the thief of an attendee’s bank account.

This was revealed by the president of the Miri Division Federation of Chinese Associations, Datuk David Goh who was impressed with the swift actions taken by the police.

“It shows that the police do attach great importance to the issues faced by the Chinese community and are willing to face, assist and provide the latest information to the audience of more than 100,” he added.

The session, organised by the federation and the Miri Police headquarters, was held at Eastwood Ballroom early this month and attended by all 73 member associations of the federation.

Goh also thanked all police personnel present at the forum.

He promised to organise more such forums for the Chinese community.

He added that the federation was willing to act as a bridge between the Chinese community and the police here.

“Anyone facing any problem can always seek for help from the federation’s office and report to the police through proper channels,” said Goh.

He also appealed to the leaders and representatives of all member associations to share what they had learnt at the forum with their members.

Miri police Head Of Criminal Investigation Department ( CID ) DSP Loh Wooi Kee advised the public not to challenge the law.

On malicious comments on online social platforms, he said messengers, forwarders and administrators were all criminal offenders and would face legal sanctions.

He further explained that the police attached great importance to the slanderous comments so the group administrators had a heavy responsibility and must filter certain information or videos in advance.

Messages with malicious comments should be deleted before they were spread, he said.
