KUCHING: Police have opened an investigation paper regarding the mischief case involving political parties in Tebedu and Serian.
According to Supt Douglas Nyegin Taong, the police spokesman for the 15th general election (GE15), the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for misbehaviour after a political party’s billboard was stolen and taken away by an unknown person in Tebedu and Serian.
The investigation paper was two out of the three papers opened on yesterday (Nov 10) after police received reports pertaining to election offences.
Supt Douglas said the remaining investigation paper was opened under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 10 of the Parliamentary Elections Act 1954 for receiving money on Facebook for bribery which happened in Lundu.
He also added that as of Nov 10, police had approved a total of 265 permits for political parties to hold their campaigns and political rallies throughout the state.
With that, he also advised all political parties contesting in the coming GE15 to abide by the laws that are set in place to avoid disruption of peace and harmony throughout the election period.
