KUCHING: The State Legislative Assembly (DUN) observed a moment of silence as tribute to former Senate president Tan Sri Abang Ahmad Urai Abang Mohideen today.

The DUN also saw a moment of silence to honour other leaders and representatives of the state assembly who have passed on this year.

The assemblymen bowed their heads, along with Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, expressing their condolences to the family members.

“We are very saddened by the passing of the deceased, I request the council to have a moment of silence, and pray according to their respective religious beliefs,” he said.

The late Ahmad Urai, died on June 12 this year at the Normah Specialist Treatment Centre, after he collapsed at a function.

He was 89.

Ahmad Urai was the Senate president from 1988 to 1990. He had also served as Sarawak assistant culture, youth and sports minister. Ahmad Urai was the Senate president from 1988 to 1990.
