Miro Simuh (GPS- Serembu) has requested the Kuching Division Agriculture Department to give serious attention to the application to expand the coffee growing area in his constituency.
He said so far, 6,800 liberica coffee trees had been planted in the Tringgus area in Serembu.
After nearly two years of planting, he said, it seemed to have yielded unexpected results.
“Therefore, we plan to expand coffee cultivation with more participants consisting of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land owners,
“Our expectation is that by 2025, we estimate that there will be 50,000 coffee trees that will be planted throughout Serembu,” he said when debating the 2023 State Budget at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
In other developments, Miro also said, there was a need to build a health clinic in Pekan Warisan Siniawan and the Krokong area in Serembu.
For the record, the Krokong Health Clinic is in a dilapidated state and is often flooded.
Meanwhile, Pekan Siniawan Health Clinic, which rents a small shop unit, operates in congested condition where patients must wait on the pavement of the shop for their turn to receive treatment.
He also requested the government to add another secondary school in the Serembu area.
“The existing secondary school, which is SMK Paku, is overcrowded with more than 1,800 students and is run in two sessions.
“This school which was originally built to accommodate 1,000 students, is now unable to accept new students,” he said.
In this regard, Miro requested the relevant ministry to consider the request of the people of Serembu.
