KUCHING: Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHEDA) hopes the new federal government will be supportive and accommodating in its business policies to assist all businesses in Malaysia.

Its Kuching chairman Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok pointed out that stability in politics and government economic policy are both needed for a good economy and business climate in the country.

“Reduce red tape and government-linked companies’ (GLCs) involvement in business.

“There are legacy laws and policies from previous governments, and some have to be updated to keep our country competitive with the world.

“We need to open up our economy with less regulation and less distortion from price control and monopolies. Let the market be free to keep our businesses and industry competitive.

“Productivity needs to further increase so that income can be raised for all employees,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

Sim noted that the new prime minister will have to choose a cabinet that strikes a balance between keeping him in power and moving the country forward.

He said this includes the goal of increasing income and the distribution of wealth among all Malaysians.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged that he will run our government on the basis of good governance, free from corruption and racism, and economic recovery.

“We also hope he will not forget to be a caring prime minister so that the less fortunate and marginalised will not be left behind.

“All of Malaysia awaits the announcement of the new cabinet with high expectations that everyone will have their fair share of the country’s wealth, irrespective of race or religion,” he added.
