The recruitment and selection system to the Sarawak civil service, which is based on merit, has been used to ensure the appointment of staff is based on qualification, ability and competence regardless of quota, race and background.
Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the system selection, development and promotion in the civil service are carried out in an orderly manner.
“However, the government will continue to improve the civil service in line with the current development and needs.
“At present, the civil service is made up of officers from all races including ethnic minorities such as Kajang, Mierek, Saban and Tagal,” he said when delivering his ministerial winding up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (Dec 1).
He added that the State Commission Civil Service established under Article 36 of the Sarawak Constitution, is an independent commission to manage and monitor recruitment, promotion and discipline matters for the entire Sarawak civil service.
Awang Tengah was responding to questions from Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (GPS-Dudong) on the civil service recruitment procedure in Sarawak to ensure job seekers are treated fairly.
