RM510m projects to improve lot of the people

The Sarawak government will continue to improve the welfare and socioeconomics status of the people through the Urban Renewal project under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) with an allocation of RM510.5 million.

Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the projects will improve the standard and quality of life of the people by providing comfortable and affordable housing.

“A planned placement equipped with basic infrastructures, utilities, recreational facilities, places of worship and business premises for socio-economic development for the local residents are also provided,” he said when delivering his winding-up speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) yesterday (Dec 1).

Meanwhile, he said 14 Urban Renewal projects were implemented under the 12MP in which all projects are in various stages of planning and implementation.

At the same time, he said some new proposals of the Urban Renewal project will be proposed under the 12MP semester review later as a continuous initiative of the government in ensuring the wellbeing and improve the quality of life of the people in line with the state’s aspiration by 2030.

He said the Darul Hana Development Project which involves the moving of the residents under the first phase from Kampung Semarang and Kampung Panglima Seman Lama has started since August 2022 and the first phase involves 310 heads of household (KIR) who are expected to transfer to Darul Hana at the end of the year.

Touching on new townships and service centres, he said these, too, will be given special attention to ensure the economic gap between the urban and rural areas can be bridged.

“This development allows the people to enjoy the results of fair development in line with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 which is economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability.

“The Sarawak government through LCDA will continue the projects in Sebuyau New Township, Samarahan; Simunjan New Township, Samarahan; Kabong New Township, Betong; Bandar Baru Daro Phase II, Mukah; Lingga Service Centre, Sri Aman; Matu Service Centre, Mukah; Igan Service Centre, Mukah; Matadeng Service Centre, Mukah and Ulu Merapok Service Centre in Lawas,” Awang Tengah said.
