KUCHING: All dog owners in ​​Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) are required to get a dog licence, as stipulated under the The City of Kuching North (Dog Licence) By-laws,1991.

The issuance of dog licence is to enable the commission to monitor, prevent and control the rabies disease.

Dog owners who want to obtain the licence must comply with the conditions that have been set such as: the dog must be kept in the owner’s home or compound and not be allowed to roam; dogs must be leashed, guarded and under the care of the owner at all times when taken out; and to ensure that the dogs do not attack or cause injury to civilians and livestock as well as causing damage to public properties.

As specified in The City of Kuching North (Dog Licence) By-laws, 1991, the annual licence fee for a dog is RM10 and each premises is allowed a maximum of three dogs only.

However, if there is more than the amount that has been capped, a fee of RM30 will be charged for any increase in the number of dogs being applied.

For dogs that have been licensed, the dog owner must ensure that the identification badge (tag) provided by DBKU is always on the dog’s neck.

For public information, The City of Kuching North (Dog Licence) By-laws, 1991 is to safeguard the interests of the citizens of Kuching North City.

Dog owners who failed to comply with the law can be fined RM500 for first offence and RM1,000 for the second and subsequent offence, if convicted.
