SIBU: Sibu Children’s Welfare Team (PKKK) in collaboration with the Parents-Teachers Association of SMK Bukit Lima has held a Children’s Character Building Intervention programme at the school’s Sri Cemerlang hall here recently.

A total of 450 students of SMK Bukit Lima attended the programme.

According to Sibu PKKK chairperson Melinda Wong Kwong Hung, the programme included talks on crime involvement among today’s youth; moral rehabilitation of Inmates of Sibu Prison; drug prevention & patient rehabilitation; and children’s moral management (Children Act 2001) by various local related government agencies.

Among others, she stated the programme was aimed to produce children with good character and personality, provide exposure to children about the effects of social ills and cultivate the strength of identity, mental and commitment as well as a sense of responsibility from the transition of childhood to adolescence.

“It is hoped that through this programme, children who come from different backgrounds are to be aware of and able to deal with negative symptoms that can destroy their future while they are at school and out of school,” she pointed out.
