BETONG: A woman sustained severe injuries while five others were slightly injured after two pickup trucks collided with each other at Tanjong Pais, Skrang this afternoon.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the accident involved a Toyota Fortuner belonging to the Sarawak Health Department engineering branch and a Toyota Hilux. It happened at 12.20 pm.
Firemen from Betong station were promptly despatched to the scene, about 20km from the station, after receiving a distressed call.
Upon arrival, they confirmed the accident and found a woman trapped in her seat in the Hilux while the male driver managed to get out on his own.
Extrication works were carried out using a combination rescue cutter to open the door and the victim who sustained severe injuries was brought out of the car.
Meanwhile, the Fortuner driver and passengers comprising two men and two women also managed to get out of the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
All six victims were later handed over to the paramedics to be taken to the hospital for immediate treatment.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 1.15 pm and headed back to their station.
