SIBU: All airlines serving the state have been told to increase their flight frequencies during the coming festive seasons and celebrations.
Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said this is to support the movement of people as well as industrial activities.
“The Ministry of Transport Sarawak has written and proposed to all airlines serving the state to increase their flight frequencies and continue offering reasonable airfare.
“Especially with the coming major festive seasons and celebrations in Sarawak namely Christmas, New Year 2023, and Chinese New Year,” he said in a press conference before welcoming the passengers from Singapore at Sibu Airport yesterday (Dec 16).
Lee noted that the consideration of all airlines in the ministry’s proposal will help to lighten the financial burden faced by the public.
“This will also keep the momentum going for tourist activities, movement of goods and people,” he said.
However, he also urged the public to plan ahead their journey for the coming festive seasons and purchase their flight tickets in advance rather than buying at the last minute.
“Don’t buy your ticket at the last minute as there are many Sarawakians working in West Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, they are expected to return home for the festive seasons and celebrations.
“My Ministry will continue to have regular engagements with the aviation authorities in Malaysia and the airlines including AirAsia.
“This is to further improve air connectivity which is critical to promote Sarawak as a centre of investment, business, and tourism in the region,” he stressed.
