SIBU: Thousands of people from all walks of life are expected to converge at the Sibu town square on Dec 31 to usher in the New Year 2023.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is set to organise the New Year 2023 countdown at the venue after a two-year hiatus owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a press conference at the premises of SMC today, organising chairman Councillor Mohammed Abdullah Iskandar Roseley said the event will witness the display of fireworks at the stroke of midnight on Dec 31 lasting for 10 minutes.
Before that, he said the event will feature performances from mostly local talent artistes commencing at 7 pm.
He said these performers will be DJ Azwan, Dyanne Oshield, Christina Tou Yee Yee, War Drum, Sapeh Paradise, Major Minor and dancing groups by Swan D and Danger Crew.
Abdullah Iskandar, who is also vice chairman of SMC’s standing committee of Social and Community Development, revealed that other performers for the next two hours leading to the countdown will be Ramles Walter, Melissa Francis, Raquel Then, Chieng Chieng Ng, At Adau as well as a popular Hyperact group and finally K-Clique group from Sabah.
“We want the audience to cherish and enjoy the night of entertainment programmes to their fullest satisfaction,” he enthused.
During the event, he said a prize presentation ceremony will be held for winners of the Christmas tree competition.
He added that chairman of SMC Clarence Ting Ing Horth will be in attendance to officiate at the event.
Also present at the press conference were the chairlady of SMC’s standing committee of Social and Community Development Councillor Zaiton Abdul Kader and Councillor Yii Souk Ming.
