SIBU: The staple event of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC)’s Tower Run will be held again next year on March 18.
Such a tower run was put on hold for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the event’s organising chairman Councillor Yii Souk Ming as per its name, this is a run to the top of the tallest building in Sibu, the Wisma Sanyan, standing at 125 metres which was once acclaimed to be the highest building in the state.
Speaking at a press conference held at the SMC’s premises yesterday, he said the council has been reviving a number of programmes after a two-year hiatus since the start of COVID 19.
He said the major event that was organised this year was the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) and coming up is the New Year Countdown 2023.
With that, he said the council has planned a number of programmes and events for the coming year.
According to Yii , since the tower run’s inception, the council had received many applications from all over the world.
He said among the notable competitor previously was Soh Wai Ching, who is presently the number one tower runner in the world.
This time around, he disclosed that the council is glad to announce the Underground Runners will be joining to co-host this event.
The council, he pointed out believes in events that is not only able to attract people of various demographics to converge to Sibu but also to promote a healthy lifestyle to everyone.
He asserted that not only that this is in line with sustainable development goals but the council’s vision which is towards liveable and sustainable city by year 2031.
“With this announcement, the council hopes that many would participate and enjoy this run together with their friends and families.
“As this is a one-of-a-kind event in Sibu, take this as an opportunity for those who would like to participate in it as a stepping stone towards building a healthy lifestyle, a platform to enhance the running experience and to basically share your time and your moment with us.
