KUCHING: The appointment of Datuk Hii Chang Kee as Deputy State Secretary is proof that Sarawak’s civil service will promote a person of any race to important positions based on merit.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan branch chairman Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok commended Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for building a civil service based on meritocracy.

“For the Chinese community in Sarawak, this is a good move by the state government that our civil service is for all Sarawakians irrespective of race.

“We can also trust our government to promote anyone who is good,” he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 2).

He said the state government is also attracting more Sarawakians to become a part of the civil service, by recognising UEC certificates as a qualification to work in the civil service since 2014.

“The Sarawak government is leading the way in running our country in a fair and equitable manner that is inclusive which will promote peace and prosperity for all Sarawakians.”
