SIBU: Narcotics police arrested two locals in Jalan Kampung Hilir for allegedly possessing various drugs worth RM650 on Monday (Jan 2).
Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the arrests were made around 11.30am at a house.
Police arrested a 21-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman on suspicion of engaging in substance abuse activities.
“Further inspections led to the seizure of 12 plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine with an estimate weight of 6.20g and two pills believed to be Erimin 5 drugs.
“The drugs valued around RM650, were then seized as evidence.”
Background checks found that both suspects, who tested positive for drugs, had priors related to drugs.
“They will be investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952.
“If convicted under Section 39A(1) DDA 1952, the suspects can face a three-year jail term and three strokes of the rotan.”
Meanwhile, if convicted under Section 15(1)(a) DDA 1952, the suspects could be fined up to RM5,000 or be sentenced to jail for a term of up to two years or both and be placed under a two-year supervision under Section 38B DDA 1952.
