KUCHING: The spectacular bloom of the Rafflesia tuan-mudae, an endemic species of Sarawak, is visible to visitors at Gunung Gading National Park.
The flower, which is the biggest in the world, began to bloom yesterday and is expected to do so through to Tuesday.
Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), in a statement yesterday said that two flowers of this species have a diameter of 55 cm and 57 cm, respectively.
One of them is situated 100 metres from the park’s headquarters, and the other is situated 250 metres away.
It is breathtaking to witness a Rafflesia flower in bloom. Despite the location’s easy trail, a guided walk is compulsory, the corporation said.
For nature lovers, no bloom is ever the same because a Rafflesia flower’s colour and petals constantly change over the course of its brief lifespan, which is typically six days.
Visitors can call the park office at 082-735 144 for more details.
