KUCHING: The United Kingdom’s (UK) Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni at his office in Baitul Makmur, Petra Jaya, here on Friday (Jan 13).
According to a press statement, the Sarawak government has been working closely with the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (PACT), a unique capacity-building programme jointly governed and funded by FCDO and the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) through the UK’s International Climate Finance.
The ministry said they work in partnership with countries towards emissions reduction and support them to implement and increase their ambitions for tackling climate change.
“The UK PACT programme has been supporting the ministry on green economy policy for Sarawak, carbon trading governance framework, and greenhouse gas inventory,” it said.
The statement added that during the event, they also discussed further collaboration and support for Sarawak’s net zero strategy and carbon plan, including hydrogen economy.
Also present were the ministry’s permanent secretary Abang Ahmad Abang Morni, the ministry’s deputy permanent secretary Rusmaliza Mat Darus, representatives from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), and the deputy controller of the Natural Resources Environment Board (NREB).
Before visiting Dr Hazland, the FCDO delegation had earlier paid a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also the Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
