KUCHING: Tanah Puteh Health Clinic has received an allocation of RM100,000 from Bandar Kuching MP to upgrade its basic facilities for the benefit of its patients and staff.

MP Dr Kelvin Yii along with Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong and Yii’s special assistant George Lam visited the clinic to hand over the allocation on today (Jan 16).

“Last year, we paid a visit to the clinic to better understand the situation after receiving multiple complaints from the public on the condition of the toilets in the clinic, where there is no specific toilet or railings to provide handle support for the elderly or people with disabilities.

“We also paid a visit to Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sarawak (JKNS) to better understand the issue and to learn about the plan to upgrade the toilet facilities, and urged them to speed up the improvement project for the benefit of patients.

“During this visit, I am grateful to see the completion of the upgrades of the men’s toilet including the addition of a toilet specifically for people with disabilities and elderly. This upgrade can provide a comfortable toilet environment for patients and the public,” he said.

On the allocation given, he said it is to help the clinic do other necessary upgrades and purchase of medical and non-medical equipment for the clinic.

“Ever since I was elected as a Member of Parliament, I have always been concerned about the shortage and needs of the Tanah Puteh Health Clinic.

“Before this, my parliamentary office allocated more than RM220,000 to this clinic for various issues including to renovate the clinic, paint the interior, upgrade the air-conditioning equipment in the lobby, purchase daily care and orthodontic equipment for the dental department, building outdoor awnings, and many more,” he said.

Yii pointed out that the said clinic is a government facility with a long history and is located in the middle of the Kuching parliamentary constituency.

“Therefore, medical staff and their welfare must be given priority, so as to provide better medical services for the public and patients,” he stressed.
