KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Kuching contingent emerged overall champion for Special Olympic State Games 2018 which was held at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Stadium.

The three-day event which began on Saturday (August 18) and ended yesterday was the fourth edition of the biennial games and involved three contingents – Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

“Congratulations to the winners. This is a good event to promote a good healthy lifestyle regardless of one’s physical condition. It can also establish new relationship among each other.

“I would also like to congratulate the organising chairperson, Datin Dayang Mariani conducting the event in a smooth and orderly manner, and which is the best so far,” said Fatimah.

The next edition of the Special Olympic State Games will be held in 2020 in Sibu. The venue will be the University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS).

Among the sports competed at the three-day event were swimming, football, boccee and track and field events.
