BETONG: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) here is happy that there are residents who want to be involved with its “friends of fire hydrants” programme.
Its operations officer Henry Jugah said the role of being “friends of fire hydrants” was to ensure that the fire hydrant is free from obstruction.
“They should ensure that the fire hydrants are not obstructed by anyone or anything such as building materials, including sand, wood, cement and so on.
“We are very happy that some of the residents volunteer to be “friends of fire hydrants” in their respective areas.”
On Tuesday (Jan 17), Henry presented the application forms to SK St Augustine Betong co-curriculum senior assistant Wan Bujang Wan Omar.
The objective of the programme is to give appreciation and recognition to the community that cares and is responsible for fire hydrants.
“This is important so that the fire hydrant is always in good condition and can be used in the event of a fire.
“Next, they should report any fire hydrant damages due to vandalism.”
Henry said they expected more people to come forward to take care of the fire hydrants near their settlements.
