SIBU: Media practitioners and politicians need to work together to attract more youngsters to stay updated with the latest news via the mainstream media.

According to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, the cooperation between both parties was important so that the younger generation would get authentic information and from the right source.

“After the implementation of Undi18, most young people do not like to read newspapers, nor listen to the news on television.

“This is a challenge and a concern for all of us, to spread the right information to them,” he said during the media dinner in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration on Wednesday (Jan 18).

Meanwhile, on development in the Bukit Assek constituency, Chieng said there was still a lot of work that needed to be done.

He hoped that the Bukit Assek Redevelopment Master Plan would be confirmed soon so that he could explain it to folk here.

He added that a meeting with pig farmers here was held to discuss the African Swine Fever (ASF) issue.

“ASF has seriously affected the pig farmers, they are voicing their concerns and requests through the discussion.

“I have conveyed their requests to the relevant ministry about the possibility of establishing a centralised pig farming area in Sibu. This is a way to prevent ASF.”
