KUCHING: A 35-year-old man was charged in the Bau Magistrate’s Court on one count of killing a six-year-old disabled girl and disposing of the body in a bush at Kampung Keranji, Bau last November.
No plea was taken from the accused, Then after a charge framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code was read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
The Section carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
He is accused of killing the victim in an unnumbered house at Kampung Keranji, Siniawan around 7 pm on Nov 20.
The court later set March 30 for re-mention pending the autopsy, chemical and medical reports.
In addition, the accused was not offered any bail and his remand order was extended until the date of re-mention.
According to previous media reports, Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon stated that the accused had beaten the victim to death before disposing of into the bush.
The incident was believed to have happened about five days before the 34-year-old victim’s mother lodged a police report regarding her child’s disappearance.
The accused was finally arrested by the police at an automobile component store along Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho on Jan 4 this year.
On the same day, around 6.45 pm, the police were taken by the accused himself to the location where the child’s body was dumped.
The victim’s mother also confirmed that the body was her daughter’s, based on the clothes used and the doll it was holding.
The body was later taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Forensic Department for a post-mortem.
Earlier, the victim’s mother was also arrested to facilitate investigation before becoming a prosecution witness.
The State Prosecution director, Shahrizat Ismail prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a counsel.
