KUCHING: State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar has been appointed to sit on the Inland Revenue Board’s (LHDN) board of directors.

Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim who made the announcement today (Jan 20) said the appointment takes immediate effect.

“Today, I have appointed the State Financial Secretary as a representative to sit on the Inland Revenue Board.

“It is an important board where its portfolio requires both experience and professionalism and the State Financial Secretary fits the criteria,” he said after chairing the high-level Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) implementation action committee meeting at the state legislative assembly (DUN) complex.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said last year that Sarawak would nominate State Financial Secretary as its representative to sit on the LHDN board of directors.

This comes after the federal cabinet approved a proposed amendment to the Inland Revenue Act 1995 to include a representative each from Sarawak and Sabah as members of the LHDN board.

Having a representative from Sarawak on the LHDN board would allow the state to determine the nation’s revenue, including the amount of Sarawak’s contribution.
