BETONG: Village heads must be more proactive in arranging for perimeter surveys of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land claimed by villagers.

In stating this, Beting Maro Assemblyman Razaili Gapor instructed village heads to list out the land claimed for by villagers and submit an application for perimeter surveys of the land.

“If the land is not registered, it is not our property. Therefore, we need to take reasonable steps by making an application to the Land and Survey Department so that the land becomes ours.

“Each application must go through the village heads as the department will not process individual applications forwarded by villagers,” he said during a meeting of community leaders at Beladin Al Amin Mosque, Pusa on Tuesday (Jan 24).

During the meeting, he also pointed out that Beting Maro has the potential to be a centre for local food production and to market the products to other states.

In this respect, he called on local entrepreneurs to take advantage of such opportunities to generate income.

“Pineapple and apong (palm sugar) products have high potential as they are food products that are used daily by people in Sarawak.

“Living in this area, we need to make use of the existing agricultural potential to further increase and diversify our local products,” he said.
