MIRI: An elderly man and his two grandchildren have their selfless neighbours to thank for coming to their aid when fire broke out at their house here on Wednesday.
On noticing the fire they rushed in and turned on all the water pipes to stop the blaze which had by then affected the living room from completely destroying the house.
Acting Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee, they were alerted at 1.22pm.
“During the incident, only three residents were inside, an elderly man aged 79 and his two teenage grandchildren,” said Nizam, adding no one was injured in the fire.
A team of firemen mobilised to the scene found most of the electrical items in the living room destroyed in the blaze, the cause of which is yet to be determined.
