Jailed four months for threatening to kill a cop

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court today sentenced an unemployed man to four months in jail for threatening to kill a police officer in December last year.

The accused Syaifuddin, 38, pleaded guilty to the charge that was read by an interpreter before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar

He was charged with making death threats against a police officer on Dec 12, 2022, at around 3.55 pm in the Padawan IPD Narcotics Crime Investigation Division Office here.

Therefore, the accused was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the complainant who was a policeman and several other policemen heard the accused uttering threatening words such as “when I get out, I will kill the policemen.”

The accused was then held by the police in the office complex pending further proceedings.

It is known that the defendant has a history of drug abuse.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang handled the case’s prosecution while the accused was unrepresented by counsel.
