SIBU: Marine police arrested two men and seized a cargo ship with 17,000 litres of diesel on board during the ‘Ops Kontraban’ operation.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that the marine police spotted the suspicious cargo ship sailing in the Kerto Island waters.

In a statement today, he said the marine police decided to investigate the cargo ship.

He said the duo was arrested for failing to produce documents or permits from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) for possession of the items.

“Upon investigation, the police found both men, aged 74 and 61, were carrying 17,000 litres of diesel in their cargo.

““The suspects along with the seized items were handed over to KPDNHEP Sibu for further action,” he added.

The seized items were worth about RM134,500.
