SIBU: A piece of unidentified metal object found in a private garden at Batu 19 Sepudu, Pasai Siong last Dec 3 was sent to Kuala Lumpur on yesterday (Jan 28).
Sibu police chief Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement yesterday said that the unidentified metal object was sent for further analysis at the Chemical Department, Petaling Jaya.
“Around 9 am that day, the police received information from a member of the public who reported the discovery of a foreign object believed to be a type of metal in his garden.
“The police together with the Sungai Merah fire and rescue team, the Sibu Chemical Department, and the Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board Bintulu went to the scene and found a piece of grey metal measuring 24′ long, 1.5′ wide and 1/2’ thick,” he said.
Zulkipli added that further inspection by Atom Malaysia confirmed that the object did not emit any radiation and that no element of radioactive material was detected either through external exposure or contamination on the object.
“It was flown to Kuala Lumpur and sent to the Petaling Jaya Chemical Department for further action on Jan 27 using a Royal Malaysia Air Force (RMAF) plane, the case is still under investigation,” he said.
