LUNDU: Firemen were rushed to a picnic resort, the Jangkar Waterfall in Sematan, Lundu after receiving a call at 12.30 hrs yesterday that a 16-year-old teenager was hit by a falling tree.
According to the Operation Commander, the male victim was at the site when following his father who is a guide for picnickers at the area.
During the incident, the teenager was sitting at a boulder when the ground behind gave way due to an erosion causing the trees to fall down on him. While waiting for rescuers from the Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba), local villagers tried to pull the body by removing the fallen trees and branches.
One of the visitors to the area who is a doctor did try to check on the victim but found out that he had succumbed to his serious injuries. He confirmed the victim had died at the spot. Firemen who reached the spot later handed over his remains to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 17.10hrs. Involved in the operation were two Bomba vehicles manned by seven personnel and two policemen.
The operation was led by PBK Pathi bin Samsudin, according to the report received from Pusat Gerakan Operasi Bomba Sarawak yesterday.
