KUCHING: The controversy surrounding the appointment of former Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament (MP) Nurul Izzah Anwar as senior economic and financial advisor to the prime minister is tainted with political innuendo.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said there is absolutely nothing wrong with Nurul Izzah’s appointment as it is the prerogative of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“I believe those who are coming up with these negative comments are running out of issues. These comments are tainted with political innuendo intended to tarnish the prime minister’s image,” he added.
On Jan 3, Nurul Izzah officially started her position as senior economic and financial advisor to her father, Anwar.
“It was made clear the appointment does not come with remuneration. If the prime minister is confident that his daughter has the knowledge, experience, and expertise to advise him, so be it.
“She has the qualifications required for the post and through her vast experience as an MP before, I believe she will be able to advise the prime minister,” he said today (Jan 31).
Looking from the perspective of a father, Abdul Karim said it is the dream of every parent to see their children doing well by believing in their capabilities.
He pointed out that ever since Anwar was appointed as prime minister, he has been widely accepted by all levels of Malaysian society and leaders from other nations, which may also have resulted in feelings of jealousy towards his performance among opposition groups.
“There is nothing wrong with the appointment of Nurul Izzah, as long as it was done within the law and proper procedure without any form of hidden agenda,” he added.
