DARO: Uptown Dao Daro (market) will open soon to provide opportunities for locals to do business in a more conducive environment.

The market will operate on weekends only from 5.00pm to 11.30pm.

The proposed site is able to accommodate 50 trading stalls with a nominal rental which will be determined later depending on the response.

Daro Assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad said the market will be selling food, drinks, clothings, fruits and more.

He added that the concept is similar to ‘uptown’ elsewhere but will initially operate on weekends.

“The idea to establish this uptown stems from the overwhelming response of visitors to the Terubok Festival recently.

“This latest initiative is another transformation to help traders in this district and at the same time to attract tourists.

“Hence, I hope that this effort will receive the support of all parties, especially those who will be conducting business there,” he said when met yesterday.

Touching on the Terubuk Festival, Safiee said it could become an annual event as the response was very encouraging and attracted people from all walks of life.

“Apart from partying, the event also fostered unity. At the same time, locals can also sell their agriculture produces and handicrafts to visitors.

“Cooperation from various parties made the festival more vibrant and successful. There may be some weaknesses but we see them as a benchmark to continue organising the festival in future,” he explained.
