KOTA SAMARAHAN: There were fewer crimes committed in this district last year as evidenced by a reduction in the crime index of 6.59 percent compared to the previous year.

District police chief DSP Brodie Brangka said a total of 312 cases of various crimes were reported in 2022 as compared to 334 cases reported in 2021, a decline of 22 cases.

“Among the main contributors to the crime index are various theft cases as well as motorcycle thefts,” he said when met by reporters during the Kota Samarahan District Police Headquarters Customer Day held at The Garden, Farley Supermarket here today (Feb 1).

As such, Brodie said his team will focus on eradicating theft and residential break-in cases through several measures to be implemented throughout this year.

“We will be implementing numerous operations regularly including roadblocks in hopes of reducing these common theft cases,” he added.

He called on the public to be more careful of their belongings to avoid the occurrence of break-ins and thefts and channel information of suspicious activities in their neighbourhood to the police.

“The people must serve as our eyes and ears as we do not have the manpower to monitor all areas at all times.”

Brodie also called on motorists with outstanding summonses to visit the headquarters’ customer day counters here to enjoy a 50 percent discount on their penalties.

He said the counters are open for two days starting yesterday at The Garden, Farley Supermarket (Wednesday) and the Kota Samarahan District Police Headquarters.

“Motorists with outstanding summonses are encouraged to visit our counters to check on their eligibility to receive the discounts and our officers here are ready to assist throughout these two days,” he added.

Brodie also pointed out that he will also be at the counter alongside the headquarters’ head of divisions to provide consultations and clarifications for concerned members of the public seeking for police assistance.
