KUCHING: The Sarawak Land and Survey Department (LANDAS) is dedicated to supporting villages that have lost their main source of income through its CSR programme.
According to a statement on Thursday (Feb 2), the Sarawak government introduced a programme that required any company with licence to extract sand to provide assistance to people who have lost their source of income or have been impacted by sand dredging activities.
In the LANDAS Gives Back CSR programme, deputy director of management, Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood said the Sarawak government had agreed to pay a total of RM25,800 to 43 people from six villages who lost their source of income.
“The villages are Kampung Segedup, Kampung Paroh, Kampung Maong, Kampung Sandong, Kampung Rantau Panjang and Kampung Sejijak.
“This contribution was obtained through the social responsibility fund by Magna Focus Sdn Bhd, as a licensee to extract sand near the villages involved.”
The cheque presentation was held at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) on Thursday.
