MIRI: All Public Works Department (PWD) divisional offices have been given the authority to manage projects within their areas on their own.

The devolution of authority from the the department’s regional office to the divisions was decided upon by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg with a view to improve efficiency on the ground.

The move follows a department-level restructuring early this year, said  Deputy Premier cum Second Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“Before the re-structure, most of the big jobs were done by the regional office … but now, in line with the revised structure, its divisional offices will manage projects in all divisions so that they can immediately tackle issues on damaged roads or road cut-offs due to erosion,” he said on Saturday night.

“The Premier decided to let them manage projects in all divisions,” he said at the Federation of Miri Division Chinese Association’s (FCA) Chinese New Year open house celebration.
