KUCHING: No more backlog on licence applications for commercial vehicles and public service vehicles starting October 2018, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

According to Loke, the ministry was aware that there has been a few months delay on the approval for licence applications for commercial vehicles and public service vehicles in the state as the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak has yet to hold their monthly meeting since last May.

“So we have taken the approach to resolve this issue in an urgent manner and I have sought the approval of the Prime Minister to appoint the acting chairman for the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak, who is the Director of Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ), Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah to chair the meeting.

“We also have cleared and processed the backlog, and today is the presentation of the approved licence applications for commercial vehicles and public service vehicles,” he said during a press conference after the presentation ceremony of the approval letters (STK) for licence applications for commercial vehicles and public service vehicles, held at Islamic Information Centre, Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here yesterday.

Loke added that starting September, there would not be any more backlog on the application as LPKP Sarawak will be holding their monthly meeting as usual.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that a local Sarawakian will be appointed as the chairman of LPKP Sarawak, and the same goes to Sabah.

“There is no date on the appointment yet, as it needs the approval from the Prime Minister, and the acting chairman will take on the duty for the moment,” said Loke.
